[ There's a good while of silence, aside from the rustle of a paper, like a page being turned. ]
Oh, yes, right! Hello! How do I do one of these voicemails things again?
[ Another bit of silence, and then he clears his throat. ]
You've reached the Doctor - the eleventh, to be exact. Leave a message and I'll get back to you, promise!

[ A pause. ]
Thank you, again.

Come in, Doctor.
[and he makes it most of the way in before she has to stoop to deftly catch a cat attempting to make a bid for freedom between his legs. the cat is an enormous ball of fluff]
You have to stop that, Innie.
[action]
[ And he leans in to smile widely at it as he scratches the top of its head. You wouldn't think he'd been practically shouting his pain over the network earlier today. ]
[action]
[and apparently she's a big fan of attention, because she lifts her head up and rubs her face on the doctor's fingers after a cursory sniff. as for sophie, she hasn't forgotten earlier, but she's all right with letting it go for the moment]
Come in. You wanted to see the stars?
[action]
[ But yes, he'll stop scratching and step a bit further into the hall. ]
Yes, the stars.
[action]
[she shuts the door before putting the cat down and taking his hand before he has a chance to protest. not that they're going far, just to her bedroom. the light is off, and the door is mostly shut, so he can't see the walls or ceiling]
Close your eyes. Not that it's anything actually spectacular, but it's better if you see it from the middle the first time.
[action]
Yes, ma'am.
[action]
There, look.
[there was a reason for her doing that, and the reason is that she's painted the ceiling and all the walls of her room. the sky is a dark blue, with stars carefully painted in silver. there are thin lines between some of them, sketching out the major constellations. about halfway down the walls, the sky gives way to trees, dark silhouettes stretching up all the way from the baseboard]
[action]
I love new skies.
[ It's getting more and more difficult to find skies that are truly new for him. ]
[action]
I suppose you wouldn't see the stars in constellations so much. Not if you travel amongst them.
[action]
I see them from all sorts of angles. That's the true beauty of it.
