[she shuts the door before putting the cat down and taking his hand before he has a chance to protest. not that they're going far, just to her bedroom. the light is off, and the door is mostly shut, so he can't see the walls or ceiling]

Close your eyes. Not that it's anything actually spectacular, but it's better if you see it from the middle the first time.

[there was a reason for her doing that, and the reason is that she's painted the ceiling and all the walls of her room. the sky is a dark blue, with stars carefully painted in silver. there are thin lines between some of them, sketching out the major constellations. about halfway down the walls, the sky gives way to trees, dark silhouettes stretching up all the way from the baseboard]

[ That is a lot of heart to put into one room, and that more than anything is what makes him smile. It's well made, of course, but, yes, it's not really that spectacular. Not a masterpiece by a master artist, but it has heart. So much heart. And that's amazing. ]

[that was what she really wanted to show him, anyway. that she missed a familiar sky, so she made it again, as best she could. it's just paint on plaster, and doesn't hold a candle to anything he's seen, but it's something]

I suppose you wouldn't see the stars in constellations so much. Not if you travel amongst them.
